Our community……
We love being part of the ‘Awesomeville’ Alstonville community! We think our little village here on the plateau is pretty special and we’re very proud to have created a space that brings together our community, and visitors to our region, in all kinds of ways.
Our ‘My Brilliant Reads’ bookclub…….
Our Miles & Henry bookclub meets monthly on a Thursday evening and is aptly named, ‘My Brilliant Reads.’ It’s a nod to one of Australia’s most loved and acclaimed novels, ‘My Brilliant Career’, by one of our namesakes, Miles Franklin. Our bookclub is proving so popular that we can’t physically fit anyone else into our gatherings here at the shop! But, if you’d like to go on the waitlist, or would like a copy of our reading list to follow along in your own time, please send your details to milesandhenrybookclub@gmail.com. We’d be delighted to hear from you!

Our author talks and events…..
We’re passionate about supporting our local writers, illustrators and publishers by hosting book launches and author talks. You’re always welcome to join us for these events that are announced, in advance, on both our Instagram and Facebook pages. It’s such a joy to help promote the authors who call the NSW Northern Rivers Region home and introduce readers, aspiring writers and fans to their work. If you’d like to organise a book launch, or other literary themed event at Miles & Henry, please send us an email to start a conversation.

Our community initiatives…..
We organised our ‘Books for Pre-schools’ initiative in response to the devastating floods that inundated our region during February and March 2022. Local families, individuals and businesses purchased from our range of specially selected new children’s books then donated them back to us for labelling and distribution. Together, we organised 550 books for 11 local pre-schools that lost their libraries during the floods. Yet another example of why we think our community is totally ‘Awesomeville’! We also support our locals through Alstonville’s Community-on-the-Verge. The group regularly drops off a selection of seasonal herbs and veggies to the shop, free for residents to collect and take home. Come in and take your pick!
